Sofa, then and now

Sitting on this sofa together, limbs

intertwined, clothes disarrayed,

the TV on, we’re lost

in one another,

yet listening for the door with half an ear.

Will your parents come back too soon?

Sitting on this sofa together, your feet

comfortably in my lap,

we watch TV, absorbed

in Masterchef,

yet listening for the door with half an ear.

Might one of our children return?
